Life as a veterinary student is incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with unique challenges and demands. At Vetcor, we understand the importance of fostering a supportive environment, and that's why our Student Ambassadors are such a key part of our community. Student Ambassadors serve as a bridge between Vetcor and current veterinary students, offering invaluable insights, sharing experiences, and providing a relatable voice on what it truly means to navigate vet school.

This is especially true as students approach major milestones like taking the NAVLE. A strong self-care routine is essential to the preparation process to help manage the pressure of studying for and passing the NAVLE. Our Student Ambassadors know firsthand that a healthy mind and body are critical for effective studying and peak performance on exam day.

We asked our Student Ambassadors for their top wellness and self-care tips, and their responses highlight a beautiful array of ways to recharge and find balance. What's clear is that finding peace often involves connecting with nature, loved ones, and activities that bring joy.

Embracing the Outdoors

Many of our Ambassadors find solace and rejuvenation by stepping outside. Whether it's the peaceful rhythm of the waves or the grandeur of mountain summits, nature offers a powerful antidote to stress.

  • Sunset walks on the beach
  • Hiking and walking! Lots of outdoor time
  • Going for a trail ride
  • Spending time outside! In Utah I am next to beautiful mountains that give such a sense of peace when you spend time in them
  • Nature walks and petting horses
  • Making sure to get outside and get some exercise
  • I love a good hike
  • Go to the beach with my friends, especially since we are all away from home on a Caribbean island

Connection and Companionship

The demands of vet school can sometimes feel isolating, making time with friends, family, and furry companions even more precious.

  • Spending time with my boyfriend and two cats
  • Playing with my dog-benefit to both of us
  • Time with friends
  • Cat cuddles
  • Spending time with my cat, Nemo
  • Family time (including pets)
  • Call family, friends, boyfriend
  • Spending time with friends and family outside of the veterinary world

Active and Creative Pursuits

From getting your heart rate up to finding your flow in the kitchen, these activities offer a wonderful way to de-stress and engage different parts of your mind and body.

  • Yoga
  • Going for a run
  • Fly fishing
  • Running
  • Pilates and baking
  • Exercising
  • Salsa/Bachata dancing
  • Sports! Tennis, volleyball, pickleball
  • Working out
  • Taking care of my plants

Quiet Moments and Restoration

Sometimes, the best self-care involves simply slowing down, taking a breath, or indulging in quiet pursuits that replenish your spirit.

  • Sleeping
  • Reading and taking baths
  • Reading
  • Remembering to stop and breathe
  • Watching TV
  • Self-care/spa days
  • Sleep, eat, exercise (the fundamentals!)
  • I love having self-care nights

It's inspiring to see the diverse and practical ways our Student Ambassadors prioritize their well-being. Their experiences underscore a vital truth that self-care isn't a luxury, it's a necessity, especially in a demanding field like veterinary medicine.
