The veterinary profession is built on more than medical care. It's built on trust, teamwork, mentorship, and people who show up for others every day. This month’s Thankful Thursday highlights team members whose leadership, compassion, and commitment have made a meaningful difference in the lives of their colleagues, clients, and patients.
Strong leaders don't just manage teams. They help others grow, learn, and believe in themselves.
At Marin Pet Hospital in San Rafael, California, Hospital Manager Ana Kiefer, RVT recognized Lucy Smith, Director of Operations, for the support she's provided throughout her leadership journey.
"Whenever I have needed guidance, reassurance, advice, or simply someone to listen, you have always been there," Ana shared.
She credited Lucy's encouragement and belief in her for helping her navigate challenges and gain confidence as a leader, adding that "so much of the growth and confidence I have gained as a leader has come from having your guidance and support behind me."
At Verandah Pet Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida, Hospital Manager Jennifer Donnelly recognized her team for the compassion they bring to work every day.
Reflecting on a particularly challenging day, Jennifer shared, "Even on the hard days, they lead with compassion."
It's that commitment to supporting one another that helps create a positive environment for both team members and clients alike.
At Animal House Veterinary Hospital in St. Charles, Illinois, Lead Technician Laura Damm recognized Christie O'Bryan, Client Care Specialist, for her quick thinking during a busy morning at the hospital.
While handling phones and helping clients, Christie noticed a longtime client had fallen outside and immediately alerted a doctor so assistance could be provided.
Laura shared, "We are so impressed that Christie can manage all this and also pay attention to what's happening outside."
Fortunately, everyone was okay thanks to Christie's attentiveness and willingness to act.
Great mentors shape careers through the knowledge they share and the example they set.
At Uniquely Cats Veterinary Center in Boulder, Colorado, Lead Technician Casey Havner recognized Chief of Staff Dr. Weronika Gajowniczek for the impact she's had on her professional growth.

"I have learned so much from working alongside you, not only about medicine and patient care, but also about advocating for our patients," Casey shared.
She went on to thank Dr. Gajowniczek for continually encouraging her growth and helping her become a stronger technician and leader.
The best leaders often spend their time celebrating others. This week, one team member made sure the spotlight was turned back on her manager.
At New Baltimore Animal Hospital in West Coxsackie, New York, Veterinary Assistant Grace Elmendorf recognized Selina Newkirk, Hospital Manager, for her dedication to both the hospital and the team.
"There is no one else I'd rather have lead me through this job and help me on my rough days," Grace wrote.
She also praised Selina's willingness to support others, noting that while Selina is always quick to recognize her teammates, she deserves recognition for everything she does as well.
Whether it's providing guidance, leading with compassion, staying alert when someone needs help, sharing knowledge, or supporting teammates through difficult days, these stories reflect the people who make Vetcor special.
