TechLife Update

October 17, 2023

TechLife is increasing its reach and reputation and bringing about a sense of excitement from many of our team members.  As one of our collaboration circles TechLife is dedicated to the enhancement of our veterinary technicians’ experience at their hospital. The togetherness that our techs feel and the connectedness that they benefit from is what keeps propelling TechLife to grow.  Check out some of the recent events and also some of the ways the online community has supported team members on Facebook.

Events

For Spanish Heritage Month, the TechLife and DEIB teams put together Vetcor x Vetspacito: Basic Veterinary Spanish. Giving our team members three opportunities to join the conversation live and learn the basics. They had a blast and picked up a little Spanish that can hopefully go a long way with their clients. The team has access to the webinar recording and Vetspacito has many free videos and resources for continued learning and quick reference guides to share with hospitals.

TechLife hosted VTNE trivia for both large animal and anesthesia.  Kellie Wilkinson, Hospital Manager at Pet Hospital of Willoughby shared her experience with the VTNE trivia events, “As a tech student (now graduated!), I loved the added opportunity for VTNE prep! It was another example to me of how Vetcor invests in their employee continuing education.” Kellie also noted that the atmosphere is very laid back, casual, and fun, “like hanging out with a study group of peers!”

In-person regional training events also continue through TechLife. Back in the spring Liz Brooks and Nicole Frank, both Regional Managers, ran training that covered aspects of dentistry for more experienced techs. TechLife is excited to announce that there is another training session that is happening this month in New Jersey for assistants and new techs. The focus will be on basic skill building and will help new team members in that region get off to a great start in their careers. This training will include restraint and handling including low-stress handling, radiology positioning, in-house lab machines, ear cytology slide prep, different blood tubes and their uses, nail trims, taking a medical history, and how to read a medical record.

Senior cat

Online Community

One of our techs was creating a project for her hospital for senior patients and reached out to the TechLife online community for help. She was looking for senior cats being active, playful, and adventurous, and the group responded with some of their favorite senior clinic cats and even their own elder fur babies for her to use. This is a wonderful peek into just how supportive the TechLife online community is.

As National Veterinary Technician Week rolls on our techs are very active online sharing their team’s unique ways of celebrating each other, and of course, there are contests for our team members to enter to add to the fun. If you are a Vetcor tech and are interested in finding out more about events and other initiatives, connect with your teammates on the TechLife Facebook group.
