We're thrilled to celebrate Lynsey Mohr, CVPM, at Rehoboth Beach Animal Hospital, who has been honored as the 2025 Practice Manager of the Year by the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA)!
Lynsey's innovative leadership truly shines. When her team faced an overwhelming number of emergency cases, she didn't just find a solution—she created a game-changer. Lynsey spearheaded the launch of a five-day-a-week urgent care service, making Rehoboth Beach Animal Hospital the sole provider of such specialized care within an hour radius.
This bold initiative has had a tremendous impact on her Delaware beach community, significantly improving access to urgent veterinary treatment. It also alleviated pressure on the hospital's general practice, by welcoming over 1,200 new clients, increasing annual patient visits by 2,400, and ultimately having a positive and lasting influence on local pets and families!
Congratulations on being named VHMA's 2025 Practice Manager of the Year! What does this recognition mean to you?
Being named Practice Manager of the Year is truly an honor and very humbling. It reflects not only the dedication I bring to my role every day but also the hard work and heart of the entire team at Rehoboth Beach Animal Hospital.
Part of this journey has been investing in my own growth, including earning my Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) credential. That process challenged me to expand my knowledge, sharpen my leadership skills, and encouraged me to find new ways to support our team and enhance patient care. This award validates those efforts and reminds me that continuous learning and commitment make a real difference not just for me, but for everyone I have the privilege to work with. Most importantly, it inspires me to keep mentoring others and pushing for innovation across our profession. I hope it encourages other practice managers to pursue their own growth and leadership goals with passion.
Can you walk us through the initial challenges and the thought process behind establishing urgent care services at your practice?
We began seeing a rising demand for same-day urgent care, particularly from non-clients who didn’t have access to immediate veterinary support. Rather than turning those patients away, we saw it as an opportunity to expand our impact. The challenge was balancing those visits with our existing client load without overwhelming the team. We spent a lot of time strategizing workflows, investing in training, and piloting the new system in phases. Our ultimate goal was to provide accessible, high-quality care while protecting our team from burnout, and I’m proud of how we’ve been able to do that.
What’s it like working at a hospital with a strong support team when you come up with an innovative idea like this?
It’s everything! A vision or idea is just that, an idea, without the right team to bring it to life. I’m fortunate to work alongside an incredibly talented, empathetic group of people who genuinely care about making a difference. Implementing urgent care was a leap into the unknown, but our shared goal to help as many pets as we can within healthy boundaries gave us the courage to take that leap together. It’s not just about innovation; it’s about trust, collaboration, and the belief that we can say “yes” more often to the pets and people who need us.
Let’s go back to the beginning—what made you interested in having a career in vetmed?
From a young age, I was always drawn to animals; whether it was our family pets, the tree frog that lived on our porch, or anything in between. But what truly sparked my passion for veterinary medicine was enrolling in the Animal Science pathway at Cape Henlopen High School. The program was incredible—we cared for classroom animals and even worked with an external dairy goat farm. For two of those four years, I took home and fostered a baby goat, bottle-feeding and caring for it until fully weaned. I later showed those same goats in local showmanship competitions at the state fair. That hands-on experience helped me realize how much I loved caring for animals and inspired me to pursue a degree in animal sciences and ultimately, a career in veterinary medicine.
You started at Rehoboth Beach Animal Hospital as a high school intern and later returned as Practice Manager. What advice would you give to veterinary professionals who are looking for their perfect practice fit?
Look for a place that feels like home—not just in location, but in culture and connection. For me, returning to Rehoboth Beach Animal Hospital felt like coming full circle. Our hospital is just half a mile from the beach in the town I grew up in, but what truly makes it special is the people. No two team members are the same, and that’s exactly what makes our culture work. Everyone brings something unique to the table, and we lean on each other to get through the hard days. My advice? Find a team that embraces who you are, values your contributions, and makes you feel supported. The right practice will bring out your best, and you’ll know it when you feel it.
What one piece of advice would you give to other practice managers who are looking to innovate and adapt their services to better meet community needs?
Remember: the sky is the limit. As leaders, we have the unique opportunity and responsibility to help shape what the future of veterinary medicine looks like. Our profession is constantly evolving, and innovation isn’t just encouraged, it’s necessary. Keep your focus on the shared goal: helping pets live healthier, safer lives. When you see a gap in care or access, ask yourself how your hospital can be part of the solution. Lean into creativity, listen to your team and community, and don’t be afraid to try something new.
What's the most memorable or heartwarming case you've been a part of at Rehoboth Beach Animal Hospital?
There have been so many meaningful cases over the years, it’s hard to choose just one. But what always stands out to me is watching my team do what they do best: care for patients with everything they have. We've had our share of last-minute miracles, those emergency surgeries that come in late in the day when everyone’s already tired. And without hesitation, team members volunteer to stay, turning a regular shift into a 12- or 13-hour day just to make sure that patient gets the care they need.
To be clear, I never want to glorify overworking. I’m a firm believer in protecting work-life balance. But there’s something incredibly powerful about watching a team come together, out of love and purpose, to save a life that might have otherwise been lost. It’s in those moments that I’m reminded just how special this profession is. We do hard things every single day in over 900+ hospitals across Vetcor’s network and we should all be proud of the impact we make.
Rehoboth Beach is a beautiful location. What's your favorite way to unwind and enjoy the Delaware beach community outside of work?
A beautiful day at the beach has the power to turn any stressful week around for me. When I can’t get to the beach, I find just as much joy spending quality time with my husband and two children. And on quieter days, curling up on the couch with a good book is my perfect way to recharge.
The Practice Manager of the Year award recognizes individuals who use their knowledge, experience, and expertise to transform their practice and improve business operations. Lynsey’s efforts transformed her community and rightfully earned her this incredible honor.
Lynsey, congratulations on this outstanding accomplishment! We are proud to have you on Team Vetcor!
