Back to School Resources for Parents

August 26, 2020

It’s been a strange, strange summer and, whether you’re ready or not, fall is knocking at the door. And with the end of summer comes the start of the school year which undoubtedly looks a lot different than it typically does.

We know that our employees are more than just their job titles - they’re also children, brothers, sisters, caregivers, guardians, and parents. Which means that many of them will now have to balance work with parenting and making sure their kids are getting their education whether they’ve chosen to send them to school, have them learn online, or participate in a hybrid program.

Regardless of the option that’s best suited for you and your family, we want you to know that you have our support and that there are resources available to make things a bit easier:

Child Care Assistance: Our employee assistance program (EAP), Health Advocate, can help you find a local child care provider or assist you in locating a nanny or other at-home care provider for your little one(s).

Free Educational Resources: There are a number of websites and lists of online resources that will help you help your kids if they’re learning from home. Some such resources include Wide Open School, Learning Keeps Going, and Amazing Educational Resources

Free Educational App & Websites: If you’ve got to get work done while your little one does some studying on their own, don’t sweat it. Open Culture offers free textbooks on a variety of subjects while Zeno Math makes math fun. WGBH also came up with the Gracie & Friends apps to help facilitate STEM learning for children up to age 8.

Alternative Learning Options: Pandemic Pods, Learning Pods, and Outschool are just some examples of alternative learning options. Pandemic Pods and Learning Pods accommodate small group learning by matching your child with other children from your community while Outschool provides online classes to students 3-18 starting at $10 per class.

Wellbeing Benefits: Don’t forget that if you’re a full-time VetCor employee, you have free access to Headspace as part of your employee benefits package. If there was ever a time to practice mindfulness and self-care, it’s now. So if you haven’t already tried it, we encourage you to give it a shot. You can sign up through your Dayforce account.

We hope these resources make starting the school year a bit less stressful for you and your family. We know that thing’s aren’t easy right now but we’re all in this together.

If you have any feedback regarding how we can continue making life better here during this time, especially for those of you who are juggling parenting duties, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
