Celebrating World Veterinary Day

Celebrating World Veterinary Day

April 28, 2023

Happy World Veterinary Day to all of the amazing veterinary professionals in the VetCor community! They are the superheroes of the pet world and we're thrilled to be celebrating them today.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to our teams who bring their expertise, compassion, and dedication to pet care every day. They truly go above and beyond to ensure that their patients are healthy, happy, and well-cared for. We are grateful for their unwavering commitment to providing the highest level of care to every pet that comes through their doors.

Alfonso

For many in the veterinary field, their work is a true calling and passion. Alfonso, Hospital Manager at Livingston Animal Hospital in Livingston, NJ says “I’ve always had a passion to work with animals and I saw no better way than to help them by working in veterinary medicine.” At age 18, he started applying to work at veterinary hospitals. He gained experience as a manager at Petland Discount before starting as a veterinary assistant at Animal Specialty Center. He later became the lead veterinary technician at Cresskill Animal Hospital and had the opportunity to work at several VetCor locations before becoming the hospital manager at Livingston Animal Hospital. Alfonso has also been part of helping with our tech training programs through TechLife.

We are proud that our veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and hospital managers alike are all supported within the VetLife, TechLife, and HMLife communities. Here, team members are able to connect, share their unique experiences, offer advice, and have access to resources and learning opportunities. Our team members have a community to belong to, no matter their background or experience level.

We are grateful for the hard work of both new and seasoned veterinary professionals who come from all walks of life and make up our team. As a network with over 800 practices across the United States and Canada, we understand the value that comes from the diversity of perspectives and experiences that each individual brings, and we firmly believe that everyone belongs here at VetCor.

Dr. Sophie Gleeson, Chief of Staff at Shannon Animal Hospital in Midland, TX, “was raised around horses and played polo at the end of high school through college so there was no question in becoming a veterinarian.” Dr. Gleeson had the unique experience of growing up in Australia before moving to the US where she worked as a veterinary technician for two years later obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas A&M and her veterinary degree from St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, with her clinical training completed at Louisiana State. Her love for animals both large and small allowed her to get experience early on in life.

The veterinary profession can be challenging, with extensive and ongoing education, long hours, emotional situations, and the occasional uncooperative patient. Our teams take it all in stride with positivity and grace. Whether they are diagnosing a tough case, comforting an anxious pet, or just lending a listening ear to a concerned owner, our teams truly make a difference.

Dr. PooleWe asked Dr. Stephanie Poole from El Cid Animal Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL what advice she would give to someone looking to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She says “If you are interested in vet med GO FOR IT! Don't let anyone talk you out of it because there are plenty who will. Find at least one person who will support your interest and your dream and go for it. Don't let anyone discourage you from doing what you like to do because you may find out that you don't like it, you love it! Get as much exposure to the field as you can. This is an emotional job with incredible highs and incredible lows, and it helps to see it so that you can be it. And if you change your mind and decide to do something else, that's ok too. You only get one life to live, may as well enjoy your job while you do it!”

To all of our hard-working team members, we want to express our gratitude and appreciation for all that you do. You are the glue that holds everything together and we couldn't do it without you. Thank you for your kindness and your steadfast dedication to the health and wellness of pets. We wish you all a very happy World Veterinary Day!
